Installation-ready solution saves time and reduces risks

CTI is delivering a unique solution in Finland to Porvoon Energia: a horizontal electrode boiler with auxiliary equipment, supplied as a turnkey package. The module, fully assembled at CTI’s Haapavesi facility, is transported to the installation site, reducing on-site work time to a fraction of that required by traditional delivery methods. The solution minimizes interfaces, simplifies maintenance and lowers lifecycle costs – while ensuring that critical district heating is produced reliably and cost-efficiently.

Porvoon Energia tendered the new boiler investment through a public procurement process. CTI’s competitive advantage was the lowest horizontal electrode boiler on the market, which earned decisive points in the comparison. The reliability of the technology and the completeness of the delivery convinced the customer.

“We most likely have the lowest boiler in this size category on the market,” says Timo Huusko, Sales Director at CTI.

The delivery includes the boiler, circulation pump, heat exchanger, expansion and chemical dosing systems, as well as automation. It was later agreed that CTI will integrate the system directly into the customer’s main automation system. This eliminates an entire automation layer and simplifies spare part management.

Installation in controlled conditions

CTI constructs the entire boiler plant as a module at its Haapavesi factory: the equipment is installed inside the building, piping and cabling are completed, and the unit is delivered to the site ready for lifting. The only responsibility left for the customer is to build the foundations.

“A turnkey package reduces interfaces and makes the site phase very fast,” Huusko says.

Project Manager Antti Mäntynen emphasizes that the benefits go beyond speed—they also concern quality.

“When installation is done indoors, in warm and spacious conditions, the workmanship is better than on site, where there is often limited space, time pressure and many operators working simultaneously.”

Cost efficiency also supports this solution.

“Although transportation is challenging, the overall solution is more cost-effective for the customer than a traditional implementation. Pressure equipment inspections are also significantly easier to perform at the workshop than on a cramped construction site,” Mäntynen explains.

Smoother operation and lower lifecycle costs

Automation integration brings concrete benefits. The need for spare parts and the scope of maintenance contracts are reduced, since the same automation system also covers the new boiler. Operators benefit from a unified interface and consistent operating logic.

CTI also offers remote monitoring and reporting capabilities with the customer’s permission. Analysis of log data enables predictive maintenance – without giving CTI access to plant operation.

“By extending the customer’s main automation system, we reduce the capital tied up in spare parts and increase operational reliability,” Huusko summarizes.

Mäntynen describes the cooperation with the customer as very positive.

“Everything is progressing well, regular meetings work smoothly, and Porvoon Energia clearly trusts our operations. They know exactly what they want, and we are able to meet their needs,” he says.
